2018 September 22nd Queenscliff

We went to explore the Queenscliff site yesterday and i can tell you there was lots and lots of boats chasing calamari. We spent few hours there and it was very slow, i believe to much noise. By 10 we where of to Mud Island chasing some gummy’s but – no luck. Heaps of banjos and Port Jackson sharks but no target species. We managed few Gurnard and few flatty’s. By 1pm wind was blowing hard so we went closer in – this time close to white lady at st Leonards trying for calamari. We got few, but nothing spectacular and again very slow. On the way back we stopped at Swan Bay close to second marker in 1.7m of water and after losing few hooks – we managed few Lather Jackets. As Jerry and Mima are top – “fish soup makers” the mixed bag was welcome.
On the other note – if you decide to chase calamari between the point lonsdale and queenscliff just a friendly advice – use old jigs or go for heavy line and leader. The grass is very thick and i consistantly see people loosing they Jigs! Cheers, Happy fisherman!!!
