2018 October 30th - Mud Island
Exploring mud island on Tuesday. We got there around 11, just before low tide. From the moment we anchored it started to be busy. Gurnards and flattys every minute and then banjos, Jackson’s and huge eagle rays. I believe we had over 20 banjos bloody things. It was a good day for people to take kids out and have a great day. We waited until the tide change, but no gummy’s or any other big stuff. The water was unbelievable, but around 2 wind start picking up and we went for plan “b” – Portarlington channel. We stoped at mud island to see if squid is still around, and yes, there are plenty of them. We got to Portarlington by 4 and trued hard for snapper. No go. About 7pm I finally got some movements on the sounder and we used light gear to find out what’s going on – and voila- silver whitting everywhere. Few yakka between them as well, so we where having fun catching bait for next trip. Looks like snapper prefer that live fresh silver like I do prefer my steak straight off the BBQ and not from microwave. Cheers- happy fisherman😀
