2018 May 6th – Portarlington Red Mullet

by May 9, 2018Fishing Reports, Port Phillip Bay0 comments

We hit the water Sunday at 11nish and took of straight to wedge spit. In less then 20 min we had 15 squid. Best jig shimano t14 white color. Then dolphins everywhere so we went to Clifton springs. Managed another 5 squid. Best jig was black yamashita. As there was no much activity we went to portalington old channel. First small pinkys. Hundreds but nothing to keep. We managed few yakka and suprise to me lots nice size red mullet. I would normally catch one as a bypass, but this time there was heaps of them. We put back over 15 smaller and kept few for a feed. There was king George as well but nothing to keep. On the big rods only one banjo.
Now get this – at the ramp we saw few people bringing squid, few salmon, and few gummy, but, there was a 1m plus mullaway that this guy got of the rock wall at Werribee South on a soft plastic. Who ever you are – good on ya mate!!!!
